The invention process can be long and challenging. However if you know the proper steps to go through, it will make your journey easier, and hopefully faster. Below are some initial key steps to the inventing process.
- Research – finding out what is already out there on the market or protected by patents, etc.
- Feedback – gathering external input and feedback on your concept to make it better, get pricing ideas from potential customers, and more – OR to learn that nobody wants to buy your product, therefore helping you to make a quicker decision to not move forward with that idea.
- Prototyping – building prototypes at various stages, from hand-created to final quality prototypes.
- Protection – making decisions about intellectual property.
You can follow these steps on your own by doing your own work (visit the Video Help section to get started on some of these steps on your own) or finding your own resources to assist you. However the Williamsport/Lycoming KIZ is available to assist you with these steps, as we have built expertise in-house and developed relationships with numerous service providers over the years that allow us to efficiently help clients. Please visit the Services page for more information on some of these opportunities.
